Presentation Title:

Evaluating the effectiveness of rapid sequence intubation vs delayed sequence intubation in emergency department settings influencing patient outcomes

Abstract

Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) and Delayed Sequence Intubation (DSI) are crucial airway management techniques in emergency departments, influencing patient outcomes in critical care. This study compares the effectiveness and safety of RSI and DSI, focusing on intubation success, complication rates, and overall patient outcomes. A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 200 patients requiring emergency airway management at a tertiary care center. Participants were randomly assigned to either RSI or DSI, and data on success rates, complications, and outcomes were statistically analyzed. Both RSI and DSI had high success rates: 87% in the RSI group and 82% in the DSI group (P=0.249). Complications occurred in 26% of the RSI group and 20% of the DSI group (P=0.286). There were no significant differences in hospital stay duration or mortality between the two techniques. RSI and DSI are both safe and effective for emergency airway management. The choice between the techniques should be guided by patient-specific factors and clinical judgment. Larger, multi-center studies are needed to further validate these findings and inform emergency care practices.
